Founded in 1636, Providence is one of the oldest cities in the USA. Today, 1.6 million people live in the metro area that extends into southern Massachusetts. This Creative Capital offers a thriving arts community and a wealth of educational resources through several first-rate universities. Youths attend a very strong public school system, or any of several excellent private schools.
As one of the busiest ports on the east coast, Providence supports thriving industries. Local amenities include the peaceful Waterplace Park, a park with a zoo and a botanical center, and a superb Museum of Natural History with Planetarium. Recreational opportunities are all around with a modern skating center, hiking and biking, and of course all types of boating. Choose from a range of home settings: new condos in the revitalized downtown, welcoming neighborhoods in numerous suburbs, or even country acreage not far away.
Providence is just 45 minutes from Boston, making it easy to go north for the theatre, ballet or world-championship sports or to Cape Cod for a peaceful day of fishing or sailing or antiquing or to the sparkly casinos of neighboring Connecticut or to Newport RI to tour the famous mansions, or enjoy a relaxing beach day. New York City is within reach too, just 3 hours away.
