Job Description
The medicine service is split between 2 teams. During the week, each team is on call every other day.
When you are on call, you cover for 24 hours and are responsible for new admissions, and I.M. consults from other services. The day consists of rounding on your team patients in the morning and doing admissions as they come in.
When you are not on call, you leave the hospital after you are done rounding on your assigned patients, typically by noon. There is no night coverage. So you continue to take care of your patients overnight, and throughout the week.
The average team census is 10-15 patients. We have an open ICU, and the Hospitalist admits critical patients to the ICU. The ICU only has 6 beds and each Hospitalist team typically has 1-2 ICU patients (ICU is open to all other services as well).
Call is done from “home” (condo).
There are several medical services which admit including GI, cardiology, neurology, and neurology. Therefore, the hospitalist does not admit these patients.

Procedures:
It’s not a requirement. They have surgeons, or an interventionist that can do them. They have two internists on staff, who prefer to do their own procedures.
Minimum 1 week assignments Sun. to Sun.
Once again BC/BE, no negative background.
