North East Medical Services (NEMS) is one of the largest community health centers in the United States targeting the medically underserved Asian population. Based in San Francisco, the non-profit federally-qualified health center (FQHC) offers comprehensive health care services to a variety of patients, a majority of whom are uninsured or low-income, immigrant and monolingual. NEMS offers culturally-sensitive health care services in several languages and dialects, including Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Burmese, Korean and Spanish. NEMS provides linguistically and culturally competent medical, dental, and ancillary health care services to all members of the San Francisco Bay Area community.
As the demand for quality, relevant and accessible health care grows in the United States, so does the need for talented and compassionate primary care providers and health care professionals. As part of this effort, NEMS, its board and leadership has made a commitment to starting a medical residency program in internal medicine. They are seeking a Founding Program Director to develop a 12 resident (4 per year) internal medicine residency program offering trainees the opportunity to gain exposure to the world of community-based health with sensitivity to vulnerable populations in the community.
As the Founding Program Director, this is a rare opportunity to build a program that will fill a vital need and have significant impact on the quality of care delivery and health outcomes of this population. Serving the community since 1971, NEMS now operates 12 clinics throughout the San Francisco Bay area, and the Program Director will have access to the rich experience of a robust, growing community health center.
The successful Founding Program Director will be a confident, visionary leader with the maturity, integrity, knowledge and cultural sensitivity to inspire, develop and recruit strong faculty and residents and advance collaborative relationships with community partners.
The Medical Program Director for North East Medical Services will be responsible for:
The coordination development, implementation and administration of the internal medicine residency program. This includes planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling of program activities.
Duties will include ensuring the residency meets ACGME, Medicare, and HIPAA requirements, development and evaluation of curriculum, and maintaining an active clinical practice.
The successful Program Director must be eligible for licensure in California and be Board Certified by the ABIM.
