The Community:

This is a community of 10,000 residents located 90 miles northwest of Des Moines, Iowa and 90 miles northeast of Omaha, Nebraska. The community is a regional hub for shopping, commerce and healthcare, with 75,000+ people residing within a 26-mile radius of the city.

The variety of activities and opportunities offered in this community help make it a highly desirable place to live and grow. It was recently featured as a lead story in the Omaha World Herald which stated, “The town..., with incomes above and poverty rates below the state average, rises about the rest.” It is a well-balanced community with high-quality growth in business and industry.

Citizens understand the importance of quality education. Working together, the parochial and public schools provide choices and access to educational programs very few other schools in the country can match, with students scoring above average in tests of academic achievement and educational development. The campus of Des Moines Area Community College offers a variety of classes including 2+2 programs with the University of Northern Iowa, making it possible to obtain a four-year degree without leaving town.

Recreationally, the area is tops! Swan Lake State Park, just south of the city limits, accommodates outdoor activities year-round. This 510-acre multi-use park includes a 110-acre lake, 200 campsites, education center, picnic areas, swimming beaches and trails for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. Sauk Rail Trail is a scenic, 33-mile, multi-use trail that extends north from Swan Lake State Park.

The impressive baseball stadium, the well-groomed fields of the football stadium and million-dollar Little League Complex are examples of the city's devotion to sports. It also boasts two 18-hole golf courses and 12 city parks.
