The Medical Director shall be responsible for decisions relating to medical diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, quality assurance, and the clinical aspects of the Department of Veterans Services involving all of the following: Licensure & certification of the Ohio Veterans Homes (OVH), including Nursing Home and Domiciliary operations; research; service plans; and delivery of mental health services. Leads process on reviewing rules, policies and guidelines to assure consistency with Ohio law and administrative rule, standards of Joint Commission (JC), Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), other regulatory bodies and modern clinical standards.

Provides clinical supervision (i.e. reviews and approves employment recommendations, establishes performance goals, evaluates clinical performance) & coordination for the OVH Medical Directors; responsible for clinical decisions relating to medical diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and quality assurance. Provides clinical leadership on OVH initiatives such as electronic medical record implementation, mental health plans and system of care improvements.

Advises the Director and other DVS staff on matters relating to licensure, research, and the certification and delivery of DVS services and the clinical aspects of DVS treatment policy and operations in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Provide clinical insight to broader public policy discussions on behalf of the department through venues including, but not limited to: interagency meetings, external speaking engagements and media inquiries.

Represents the Department and serves as the spokesperson for the Director on matters related to the delivery of DVS services; attends and provides testimony at meetings, conferences and other speaking engagements; interfaces with constituents, including patients, families, advocacy groups, boards and agencies; performs other duties as established by the Director.
