Description
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is currently seeking a Correctional Unit Medical Director for the Robertson Unit in Abilene, TX.
Background
TTUHSC Managed Care has a partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to provide all medical healthcare, behavioral healthcare, dental, vision, and pharmacy services to incarcerated offender in the Northern and Western Regions of the State of Texas. French Robertson Unit- a maximum security prison located in Abilene, TX. The Robertson Unit has a 17 bed infirmary which provides care for both in-patient and out-patients. This facility houses a mixture of custody levels from minimum to maximum security. The Robertson Unit also serves as a regional release site for offenders who have nearly completed their prison sentence. This unit has a capacity of 2,984 male offenders.
Job Summary
Provides advanced professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of offender patients. Coordinates the delivery of clinical health care within a TDCJ Correctional institution, insuring that the appropriate health care is accessible and provided to the offender population in a timely fashion regardless of segregation status. Renders medical judgement regarding care provided by offender assigned to the unit according to TTUHSC Correctional Health Services Policies and Procedures, TDCJ Policies and Procedures, and American Correctional Association (ACA) on Correctional Health Care Standards. Works under general direction of the Regional Medical Director with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement. Receives general supervision from the Regional Medical Director. Supervises physicians, physicians assistants and nurse practitioners. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Required Qualifications
Must hold a current license to practice medicine by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Must hold current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate.
