Job Description

Last Update: 10/19/21
University affiliated health system seeks a Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Medicine-Pediatrics primary care physician (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Allegany County, MD.

Depending on operational needs, a successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In such instances, travel would be anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these additional sites.

Duties:

The successful candidate will practice in the areas of primary care. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

The department is not an ordinary primary care setting. You can take advantage of:

  • Employment with a unique and competitive compensation model including an attractive benefits package
  • Provide quality care in private practice like settings in local communities with the opportunity to utilize the resources of a prestigious academic medical center
  • Integrated system that assists providers with routine tasks and mandated regulations allowing you to focus on patients, families, and complex medical decision making

Join this affiliated health system, West Virginia’s largest private employer, and a national leader in patient safety and quality. The Health System is comprised of fourteen member hospitals and seven hospitals under management agreements, anchored by its flagship hospital, a 700+ bed academic medical center that offers tertiary and quaternary care. It has more than 1,000 active medical staff members and 18,000 employees who serve hundreds of thousands of people each year from across the state of West Virginia and the nation.

The Community:

The beauty of this region is unparalleled. Allegany County features 60,000 acres of public wildlands, with one in four acres being public land. Enjoy ample hiking, biking, fishing, and kayaking/canoeing opportunities in Rocky Gap State Park and Green Ridge State Forest (largest contiguous forest in the State!). You’ll quickly find that Allegany County provides captivating landscapes and some of the most gorgeous fall foliage seasons you will experience.

Allegany County boasts two Trail Towns, Frostburg and Cumberland, along the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile bike trail that runs from Pittsburgh, PA, to Cumberland, MD, before connecting to the C&O Canal Towpath, a bike trail that runs from Cumberland, MD, to Washington, DC. Receiving press accolades from the Washington Post to the New York Times, the Great Allegheny Passage continues to earn awards like Bicycling Magazine’s “Top Rail Trails Every Cyclist Should Ride,” to National Geographic’s, “One of the Top Fall Trips in the World.”

With vibrant Arts and Entertainment Districts in historic Downtown Cumberland and the City of Frostburg, Allegany County is gaining a well-deserved reputation as a regional arts destination. Year-round programming in the visual, performing, and literary arts means there is always something new and exciting for visitors to enjoy. Let's not forget DelFest, a family-friendly music festival celebrating the rich legacy of McCoury Music and the second largest bluegrass festival in the country, which calls Allegany County home.
