The hospitalists prefer to run a 7 on 7 off schedule, start and end dates are staggered during the week. Shift times are as followed:
•DAY: 8a-8p (except for Heart Hospital, which is 7a-7p)
•NIGHT: 8p-8a
•AM Admit: 8a-8p
•Mid Admit: 12p-10p
•PM Admit: 2p-12a
Patient Census
•Hospitalist team: Starting Census ranges 220-285
•Encounters per provider per shift: approximately 16-22
•Admits per 24 hours: 30-55 (entire team including swing shift and nocturnists)
•Admits per night shift: 7-12 per physician. Average 8
Procedures
May perform procedures if credentialed and candidate desires to do so, but not mandatory. 24/7 intensivist team in house. Interventional radiology and PICC team available.
Duties
Rounding and/or admitting patients as assigned, as well as provide consults. Intensivists are primary code responders, but Hospitalists are expected to attend cardiac arrest codes and rapid response codes for their own patients.
ICU Setting
Hospitalists follow their patients if transferred to the ICU, but intensivist consult is mandatory. Intensivist manages critical care issues.
