Seeking Board Certified/Board Eligible Hospitalists to work PRN at our Hospitalist program on the Southwest side of Indianapolis, Indiana. The Center serves all aspects of Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Perioperative Medicine and Outpatient Consultation. However, the PRN Hospitalist will work exclusively in the inpatient setting.

The hospital has a 98-bed capacity. The emergency department has 25 beds including two trauma rooms. It is supported by specialty physicians, in-house hospitalists who facilitate patient admissions and nursing staff trained in acute care and trauma situations. Interested candidate will be joining an established group of four Hospitalists and one Advanced Practice Provider.

  • Traditional PRN Schedule
  • Inpatient Hospitalist, duties:
    • Inpatient census averages 20 patients per day; split among 3 rounding hospitalists. There is considerable variability in census
      • Short shifts (e.g. post call) of approximately 8 hours
      • Regular/longer shifts of 10 – 12 hours on non-call days
      • On call days, Hospitalist covers on-site for 10 – 12 hours, followed by remote/from home call; Patient acuity may occasionally require a return trip to the hospital
    • Patient population includes
      • Predominantly Orthopedic cases
      • Colorectal surgery
      • Podiatric surgery
      • Urologic
      • Gynecologic
    • You will be responsible for providing ICU coverage.
  • Call is remote/from home, unless patient acuity dictates return to hospital
    • Weekend call starts on Friday morning and ends Sunday afternoon at 5 pm
    • You will be the only doctor in-house during that time except for ER physicians
  • PRN Weekday call
    • Expect to be at the hospital post-call to round on patients from the day prior and those admitted to you
  • We have both a work room and a sleeping room
  • Epic electronic health record (scored above the 90th percentile for Provider satisfaction for the inpatient Epic system)
  • Position has autonomy and allows responsibility for all aspects of care with general medicine patients admitted through ER
    • Collaboration with Sub Specialist is available and encouraged usually by phone consultation
