South Dakota’s only bone marrow transplant center is located in Sioux Falls at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center. The program was established in 2000 and has performed over 500 bone marrow transplants. The program is FACT accredited for autologous and allogeneic transplants and approved as a National Marrow Donor Program transplant and apheresis center. The program performs approximately 50 transplants per year that comprise autologous transplants, non-myleoablative transplants, allogeneic transplants and cellular therapies such as CAR-T and cellular therapies for solid tumors. The team is very actively involved in innovative clinical trials both through partnership in National Cancer Institute and commercial pharmaceutical partnership. The group has a dedicated research operations team of nurses and staff to support these efforts.

This practice is located in the Avera Cancer Institute, a state of the art facility that opened in November 2010 with 260,000 square feet dedicated to clinical space and supportive services. The Avera Cancer Institute is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program.
