Job description

Job description ASAP–ongoing locums need in Central New Mexico supporting an outpatient GI service with a strong procedure load at a major regional hospital. You’ll see established clinic patients and direct-procedure referrals, and perform inpatient procedures for patients admitted via ED/hospitalist pathways. Preference for 2+ week blocks, aligned to your availability. Team support includes 2 RNs, 2 MAs, 3 APPs (PA/NPs), and 4 office staff.

Job Responsibilities

Outpatient GI visits for established and direct-procedure patients

Hospital-based endoscopy and related procedures

Inpatient procedures for ED/hospitalist-admitted patients

Clear documentation in EMR and collaboration with hospitalists/ED and clinic teams

Qualifications

Board Certified/Board Eligible in Gastroenterology

Unrestricted New Mexico medical license (or ability to obtain) and active DEA (or ability to secure before start)

Recent, independent proficiency with the required skills listed below

Professional references and standard hospital credentialing compliance

Working Hours

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 08:00–20:00 (12-hour day shift)

Start: ASAP, credentialing dependent

Duration: Ongoing, seeking 2+ week blocks (longer welcome)

Skills

Required

Upper GI endoscopy (EGD): biopsy; foreign body removal; fulguration of bleeder (cautery/laser); injection of varices

Esophageal: manometry interpretation

Small bowel: small bowel biopsy

Lower GI endoscopy: flexible & rigid sigmoidoscopy; colonoscopy with biopsy and polypectomy

Advanced: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS); liver biopsy; insertion/management of Sengstaken–Blakemore tube

Preferred (Not Required)

ERCP — diagnostic & therapeutic

PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy)

Esophageal dilatation/manometry (performance)

Support Onsite

2 RNs, 2 MAs, 3 APPs (PA/NPs), 4 office staff (clinic & procedural support)
