Job Description

Excellent opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to mange the activities of a clinical laboratory and to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Hours are Monday – Friday from 8AM – 5PM.

Brief Description:

  • Oversee supervisor/lead staff to ensure the laboratory is running effectively; assign and distribute work, determine priorities, schedule non-routine procedures; manage personnel related functions (hiring, firing, disciplining, training, performance and competency evaluations, etc)
  • Maintain lab policies and procedures current and up to date and informs others of any changes
  • Review and oversee all satellite clinic’s lab testing, results, quality controls, and personnel training
  • Make periodic visits to the satellite clinics to inspect for regulatory compliance
  • Initiate quality control measures and monitor work quality for compliance with laboratory standards
  • Maintain records for federal, state and other appropriate licensing and accrediting agencies. Monitor adherence to safety regulations
  • Complete special projects as requested (surveys, statistical reports, studies, research, etc.)
  • Oversee purchasing supplies for the laboratory. Recommend procurement of new laboratory equipment and monitor maintenance and repairs of existing equipment
  • Evaluate new test processes and make necessary recommendation
  • Conduct periodic regulation compliance testing
  • Write department reports; assist in budget planning and cost analysis
  • Cooperate with other clinics, health care agencies and other institutions for exchange of samples and information\Responsible for the management of the department personnel including all technicians, technologists and phlebotomists
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure that all remedial actions are taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
  • Monitor that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions are completed and the test system is properly functioning
  • Monitor lab supply inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and ordering supplies while keeping in mind cost containment
  • Evaluate the competency of lab personnel in collaboration with the Director of Operations and the Lab Supervisor through direct observation of routine patient tests performance, specimen handling, processing and reporting results, observing performance of instrument maintenance and function checks, reviewing related records, and assessment of problem solving skills
  • Follow all OSHA and Universal Precautions guidelines
  • Manage the selection and maintain qualified personnel in all positions who report directly to Lab Manager
  • Assure staff performance results by coaching, counseling, disciplining, mentoring, and evaluating job performance
  • Ensure that staff performance reviews are completed by the due date
  • Correspond/interact with all accreditation agencies to stay current on regulations, changes and maintain that the lab stays in compliance
  • Initiate, perform, document, and review Performance Improvement Projects as required
  • Responsible for reviewing employees’ time and submitting payroll

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Four (4) to six (6) years' experience in a laboratory environment with similar functions
  • Ability to organize and coordinate diverse activities
  • Demonstrated supervisory ability
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations where applicable

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Science or Medical Technology
  • 5 years experience as a Medical Technologist
  • ASCP,AMT, HEW or other laboratory certification
