Physician Extender - Dermatology Clinic Job Overview:

  • Perform and records a health appraisal including health-illness history, medical evaluation, physical assessment and laboratory studies relevant to dermatologic diseases.
  • Work collaboratively with the dermatology department team in assessing emergency department patients and hospital in patients for whom dermatology consultation is requested.
  • Offers counseling and education on dermatology-related health issues, including, but not limited to: common dermatoses, benign skin lesions and nevi, skin cancer prevention, psoriasis, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, cutaneous viral infections, acne vulgaris, acne rosacea, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, chronic dermatitis, pigmentary alterations of the skin, cutaneous yeast and fungal infections, premalignant skin changes, and carcinoma of the skin including malignant melanoma.

  • Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved medications and immunizations.
  • Identify a medical problem and determine appropriate action to meet the problem, including referral to a physician.
  • Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.
  • Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.
  • Teach patients and family member's healthy regimen and responsibility for achieving wellness.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement.

Physician Extender - Dermatology Clinic Clinic Job Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • 1 year dermatology experience within the preceding 2 years.
  • 2 years' experience performing biopsies, minor outpatient surgical procedures.

Physician Assistant

  • Baccalaureate Degree from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Licensure: current, unrestricted license to practice. Any US state.

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master's, Post-Master's or Doctorate Degree from an advanced practice nursing program accredited by the ACEN, formerly known as the NLNAC, or CCNE.
  • Licensure: current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse in any US state.
  • Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • 1 year of experience within the preceding 2 years in a related clinical setting as a FNP
