Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine

Division of Endocrinology Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIU SOM) in Springfield, Illinois seeks an Assistant Professor to join the Division of Endocrinology . This is an exciting opportunity to take part in expansion and enhancement of an academic endocrinology division that is vital to the health of the people and communities of central and southern Illinois. The Division supports a four-person fellowship and has an American Diabetes Association certified diabetes program and hospital diabetes team. Join a thriving and robust practice of four board certified endocrinologists, two nurse practitioners and a team of registered dieticians and certified diabetic educators. Responsibilities include 70% clinical service and 30% academic time. Participate in the development of an ambulatory tele-diabetes program to provide services to rural patients in conjunction with partner hospitals. Regularly work with fellows, residents and medical students and take part in conferences and other trainee educational activities. Collaborate with faculty nationally recognized for innovative medical education, cutting-edge research and quality healthcare. Thyroid ultrasound training and biopsy skills preferred but not required. Founded in 1970, SIU SOM has received national and international recognition for innovation in medical education and offers a welcoming environment for dedicated clinicians who love to teach.

Memorial Medical Center, a 450-bed community hospital, and Vibra Hospital, a Long-term Acute Care facility, are teaching sites for SIU SOM. In May 2015, Memorial Medical Center opened the new Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, expanding SIU's vision to be a national leader for excellence in medical education through skills training and simulation labs.

Springfield, IL is a charming Midwest community conveniently located in Central Illinois just 200 miles south of Chicago and approximately 90 miles north of St. Louis. The population of Springfield proper is 120,000 inhabitants, with an additional 125,000 in the surrounding communities. The city offers an excellent public school system as well as Lincoln Land Community College, the University of Illinois at Springfield and several technical and business schools. Recreation is abundant , with hiking, horseback riding and biking just minutes away. Boating, swimming and water skiing is seasonally available at beautiful lake Springfield, located on the southern outskirts of the city (15 min. from the medical center). There is a rich artistic community, as well as, several large theater groups. The Sangamon auditorium offers regularly scheduled operas, plays and symphonies. Transportation to and from Springfield could not be better. The city is conveniently located off I-55 which connects Springfield to both St. Louis and Chicago. The city operated airport services major carriers such as United Express and ATA. Additionally, the Amtrak station is located in the heart of the city, approximately 5 minutes from the medical center. Don't let Chicago's harsh winters alarm you, Springfield is not affected by the great lake effect, hence our local weather conditions are surprisingly pleasant!
