Job Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Board Certified/Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physician, having experience in providing scope of care as described and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency for a Emergency Medicine Physician position at the Irwin Community Hospital on Ft. Riley, Ks. The Physician will be able to adequately care for and respond to medical conditions in the outpatient and inpatient settings for newborns, as well as pediatric and adult patient ranging from aged birth to death. This will be provided in a cost-effective manner that focuses on patient-centered evidence-based outcomes. They will collaborate with staff and other clinical departments within and outside the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) to facilitate excellent patient care.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Provide excellent patient care.
  • Ability to perform the following procedures is required, but not limited to:
    • Proficiency in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS
    • ECG Interpretation
    • Basic radiographic interpretations (chest x-ray, acute abdominal series, etc.)
    • Topical/local/peripheral infiltration of anesthesia
    • Incision and drainage of abscesses
    • Pelvic exams
    • Evaluation and stabilization of acute musculoskeletal, spine and extremity injuries
    • Endotracheal intubation in emergency setting
    • Emergency cardioversion
    • Suturing and suture removal
    • Inpatient management of insulin drips
    • Needle aspiration of pneumothorax
    • Lumbar puncture, adult and pediatric
    • Placement of anterior/posterior nasal packs or balloons
    • Management of Shock of all etiology
    • Management of Sepsis
  • Ability to perform the following procedures is preferred but not required:
    • Arthrocentesis or joint injections
    • Toenail removal and/or trephination
    • Skin lesion removal/biopsy (punch/ellipse/shave)
    • Thrombosed Hemorrhoid Incision and Drainage
    • Ocular, optic or nasal foreign body removal
    • Tympanometry
  • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Update patient information and charts with the latest findings and treatments.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.
  • Provide outpatient clinic support/services.
  • Shall see new patient consults and established follow-up clinic visits. The provider is expected to respond to telephone consults.
  • Patient care, but not limited to, routine general internal medicine care which includes care for acute and chronic patient conditions.
  • Coordinate patient care with community health agencies and social programs. The HCW will facilitate continuity of care for patients. Has knowledge of a wide variety of resource agencies available in the military treatment system to ensure proper and expedient referral of the patient and/or family member.


Qualifications:

  • United States Citizenship.
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy, trained in the practice of medicine or surgery who has completed a residency in Emergency Medicine and is Board Eligible (BE)/Board Certified (BC).
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of a residency program and or an accredited Program.
  • Board Certification: American Board of Emergency Medicine or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine certified or eligible and must obtain within a year and maintain throughout the period of employment.
  • Maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificate, Neonate Resuscitative Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificate. Certifications must be maintained at all times. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications must be endorsed through the American Heart Association or through the American Red Cross or hospital policy (ALS/PALS) for Healthcare Providers, as these are the only programs accepted. If HCW is Emergency Medicine trained and BE/BC by the American Board of Emergency Medicine then he/she only is required to have BLS and NRP.
  • Licensure/Registration: Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the United States Virgin Islands and be able to obtain clinical privileges to individually practice medicine at IACH. The license must be current (not revoked, suspended, or lapsed in registration), valid (the issuing authority accepts and considers QA information (i.e. practitioner professional performance and conduct in determining continued licenses)), and unrestricted (not subject to restriction pertaining to the scope, location, or type of practice ordinarily granted to other applicants for similar licenses in granting jurisdiction).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.


Experience:

  • Candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year Emergency room experience within the last five (5) years, which includes the care of adults, and newborns. Recent completion of Residency/Fellowship can be counted towards experience.


Compensation:

  • 1099 status
  • General Liability, Professional Liability, and Medical Malpractice Insurance paid for by the company
