It’s located on the Chukchi Sea coast and is the northernmost district in the United States. The Barrow community is known as Ukpeagvik, “place where snowy owls are hunted” and was incorporated in 1958 as a first-class city! Barrow took its modern name from Point Barrow in 1825.
