Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in emergency medicine
  • Valid unrestricted medical license or eligibility for medical license in Texas
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine, or successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Fellowship Program in one of the Emergency Medicine subspecialties

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching residents and medical students
  • Evidence of growth in clinical, teaching and research activities related to the specialty
  • Knowledge of Medical Spanish
  • ACLS/PALS/ATLS certifications
  • Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of associate professor or higher

Position Description:

  • Supervises residents and medical students in clinical setting
  • Provides performance evaluation, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department
  • Participates in resident and faculty recruitment
  • Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department
  • Assists Department Chair with implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectiveness
  • Participates in national emergency medicine societies such as ACEP, SAEM, AAEM
  • Participates in medical research projects relating to emergency medicine
  • Participates in medical school and hospital committees
  • Assists with development and implementation of special departmental projects
  • Participates in chart audits and other clinical performance improvement efforts
  • Attends and participates in at morbidity-mortality and journal clubs
  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine’s Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures
  • Attends mandatory training provided and required by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso
