Provide and maintain a high level of quality of care of all post procedural patients in need of cardiac critical care services. Coverage includes patients transferred to the Cardiac Step Down Unit (Bergen A2). This includes the following:
    • Conventional post open heart patients
    • Thoracic surgical patients admitted to the post-procedure ICU
    • All patients undergoing transcatheter valve therapy
      • TAVR
      • MitraClip
      • Future therapies not yet adopted
    • All structural and EP patients admitted to the post procedural ICU
      • ASD closure
      • Watchman
      • Lariat procedures
      • Hybrid atrial fibrillation ablation
      • Any other cardiac procedure admitted to the post procedural unit in need of intensive care services
    • Any patient deemed necessary by a cardiac proceduralist to require monitoring and care in the post procedural ICU
    • Shock Patients
      • Provide direct care to those patients admitted to, or transferred to the post-procedural unit
      • Consult service provided to patients primarily cared for in other units
      • Patients are only “signed off” upon by a group decision by the Shock Team
  • Demonstrates and models service excellence behavior at all times. Responds with concern, cooperation, and respect. Establishes cooperative working relationships with all individuals with whom contact is made.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate and effective patient care plans. Completes documentation concurrently as patients are seen.
  • Provides appropriate patient education including clear explanation of treatment; the use and side effects of prescribed medications; health maintenance; and the use of appropriate educational “handouts” or other written instructions.
  • Delegates clinical tasks appropriate to the level of training of each staff member.
  • Provides an accounting of services rendered and accurate, specific diagnosis codes for each patient by completing appropriate billing/reimbursement documentation.
  • Utilizes infection control and safety protocols appropriately.
  • Maintains familiarity with practice’s on-site diagnostic procedures and equipment.
  • Ensures the professional development of self and team (which includes critical care APP), i.e. pursues continuing education opportunities and shares knowledge as appropriate with other members of the health care team; participates in professional organizations; reads professional journals and texts; etc.
  • Participates in the practice’s “on-call” schedules as needed. Coverage is provided 365 days/year, with a rotation through two shifts of in-unit coverage from 7 am-11 pm. The provider ending his/her shift at 11 pm is available for emergency calls, with an ability to be on site in 30 minutes if needed.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes, reports, or systems that take advantage of cost savings, employee satisfaction, and/or customer satisfaction. Promotes and practices economical and effective healthcare.
  • Completes in a timely manner all managed care applications, credentialing and re-credentialing requests from the corporate office.
  • Abides by guidelines established by all managed care and insurance payors including Medicare.
  • Must attend 7AM surgeon rounds daily .
  • Provide clinical teaching and support the credentialing process of service’s APP staff.
  • Participate in department and division meetings, administrative functions, and institutional committees as requested.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO
  • Board certified in Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine, or Critical Care Medicine with experience in cardiac surgery critical care or surgical critical care preferred.
  • Maintains up-to-date credentials including: CV, License, DEA, CDS, Board Certification, documentation of hospital admitting privileges.
  • Maintains CME credit hours as required for Board Certification and/or hospital staff privileges.
