Initially reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Medical Director of Echocardiography is a dynamic and flexible individual who is licensed/board certified with experience in noninvasive cardiology and adult echocardiography. This professional will play a key role in providing direct patient care and assessments and be responsible for the ongoing development and quality control of ArchWell Health’s echocardiography program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent cardiovascular care in the outpatient and inpatient setting as needed
  • Management of chronic cardiovascular diseases including ordering appropriate imaging or lab tests and recommending treatment plans as indicated by patient’s clinical needs
  • Able to perform accurate interpretation of lab tests, EKG, chest x-rays and echocardiograms
  • Participates in population management of market’s members
  • Assists with implementation of cost reduction strategies
  • Assists with developed of a preferred Cardiology network in ArchWell Health markets
  • Supervision and coaching of primary care providers about management of cardiovascular disease and best practices
  • Reviews primary care requests for external cardiology referrals and participates in authorization with emphasis on high quality internal care providers when appropriate
  • Facilitation of team-building and forming positive relationships with community providers where needed
  • Coordination with Medical Director regarding managing day-to-day operations and participates in meetings for risk and quality management as well as improving clinical quality, efficiency, and patient and physician satisfaction
  • Directly oversees echocardiography program including:
    • Echocardiography interpretation and timely reporting
    • Assists in the hiring, supervision and training of echo technicians including functioning as a direct liaison to lead technician / imaging coordinator
    • Quality control of technicians and monitoring functionality of equipment and PACS system

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional communication skills to facilitate patient care including ability to foster and cultivate relationships with primary care physicians, center care team members, and staff
  • Extensive knowledge of cardiovascular disease and evidence-based practices and procedures
  • Well-versed in echocardiography guidelines, standards and practices as dictated by the American Society of Echocardiography
  • Strong analytical skills to handle complex clinical and administrative scenarios
  • Experience with conflict management and resolution
  • Personable, tactful, and professional demeanor
  • Comfortable with electronic medical record charting as well as teleconferencing including telehealth patient encounters
  • Spoken and written fluency in English
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages spoken by people in the communities we serve (where necessary)

Education and Experience:

  • MD or DO in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease
  • Board Certified in Adult Echocardiography
  • Current, unrestricted, active license to practice medicine (state flexible)
  • Current DEA registration
  • Proficient PC skills
