Practice Overview:

Somnia Anesthesia in collaboration with Munson Healthcare Grayling hospital seek to appoint the next department Chief of Anesthesia to start late summer 2023. This is a true life-style practice opportunity. Munson Healthcare is Northern Michigan’s largest and leading health system. The qualified Anesthesiologist will lead an established group of Anesthesiologists and CRNAs. (Supervision with a care team practice model). As a positive indicator, this cohesive group has achieved remarkably high retention and stability. The selected candidate will take on the successful legacy of the current Chief who plans to retire summer 2023.

This full-time practice, requires a total of 26-weeks per year, working 1 week on and 1 week off in rotating weeks with another full-time Anesthesiologists. The care team model is comprised of 2 MD/4 CRNAs working FT plus additional Per Diem staff members. Physicians take non-in-house calls during the 7-day Monday-Sunday rotation, leaving the following week completely off. Call-back frequency is relatively low, mostly involving labor epidurals which do not require physician to stay in-house. During weekdays, tenured CRNAs staff 3 general ORs and 1 endo room scheduled from 7 AM to 5 PM. CRNAs are medically directed by MDs in a variety of specialties, including general anesthesia, obstetrics/gynecology, orthopedics, (including blocks), urology, and ophthalmology.

Chief of Anesthesia:

As described by the current Chief, one of the most gratifying aspects of this role is the remarkable relationships with interdepartmental clinical teams and the hospitals’ leadership support. Involvement as a valued member of the medical community extends the option to serve on various clinical board positions such as Compliance, Community Outreach, Chief of Staff, Chief of Surgery. This unique professional relationship makes for a rewarding facet as an involved and integral member of the community. The Chief of Anesthesia should reside in the community and is required to have strong clinical, leadership, communication skills with a commitment to the Anesthesia care team model and the desire to invest long-term in a well-established, highly regarded organization. This position comes with the support of a dedicated Somnia Practice Administrator to assist with various administrative duties and a Chief CRNA.

  • Hospital licensed for 71 beds: currently at 48 inpatient beds
  • 3 ORs, 1 Endo Suite, 1 C-Section OR: Hours -7AM-5 PM
  • Annual surgical case volume: General 2,251; Endo 1,034; Ob 265
  • Case mix includes general, OB/gyn, ortho, urology, ophthalmology
  • No cardiac, major vascular, or trauma (level 2), nearest trauma center in Traver City
  • A robust regional anesthesia program with state-of-the-art Ultrasound- Skills a must
  • 6-bed ICU - Hospitalists staffed
  • Care-team model

Qualifications:

  • Board-Certification/Board-Eligible
  • Active Michigan State License
  • Regional Anesthesia Experience
  • ACLS & PALS Certification
