Position Description

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin is seeking an Assistant Professor or Higher, Neonatology, who will contribute to the university's mission through teaching, research and service.

Major/Essential Functions

Diagnose and provide specialized treatment to critically ill infants suffering from a variety of conditions, including birth defects, injury, and illness; stabilize newborn patients; admit critically ill infants to the unit and manage to discharge; perform procedures, such as endotracheal intubation, ventilator management, surfactant treatment, interpretation of x-rays and head ultrasounds, umbilical lines placement, and peripherally inserted venous catheter placement; coordinate transfers and discussions with other sub-specialty physicians; meet with families to discuss care plans; evaluate morbidity and mortality data; prepare and update protocols for the neonatal intensive care unit and nursery to improve patient care; manage quality improvement procedures and transport protocol; take an active role in the medical education of nurses, respiratory therapist, residents, and medical students; participate in scholarly activities, including research, continuing medical education, and publication.

Qualifications

  • M.D./D.O. or foreign equivalent
  • Successful completion of Pediatrics Residency Program
  • Successful completion of Neonatology Fellowship Program
  • Eligible to obtain a Texas State Medical License
  • Board Certified in Pediatrics and Board Eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
