High Profile Health System hiring for an experienced Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner!

This position will be caring for the Thoracic Surgery Outpatient Patients in a Clinic Only Setting! The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician Assistant will work regular scheduled shifts Monday – Friday AND No WEEKENDS AND OR ON CALL coverage requirements!

The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will play a pivotal role on this service with support in the clinic, patient care coordination and involvement in all aspects of post-operative care, including prn inpatient management.

  • Performs follow-up (preoperative and postoperative) clinical examinations: diagnosing and treating complex conditions in collaboration with attending physicians, most often in the outpatient clinic setting.
  • Makes practice decisions autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals to evaluate and manage acute and chronic illnesses of the surgical client through assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation.
  • Independently and in collaboration with surgical staff orders laboratory and diagnostic imaging necessary for diagnosis, treatment and expediting surgical plan of care, as well as surveillance of postoperative clients.
  • Provides education to clients and family regarding disease processes; pharmacological vs. non-pharmacological treatments; surgical vs. non-surgical treatments; risks and benefits of surgery; counsels on issues which could potentially impact surgical outcome; and postoperative expectations across the continuum of care.
  • Independently and in collaboration with other members of the health care team provides quality, comprehensive, cost-effective care to clients.
  • Triages consults and serves as consultant to Primary Care and other specialty providers to ensure appropriate access and care.
  • Liaison to other providers and ancillary staff as needed.
  • May round with physicians on "inpatient", collaborating with providers and ancillary staff such that the" inpatient" needs are met.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner /Physician Assistant Program
  • Active Massachusetts License
  • Two to five experience required.
  • BLS Certified
  • ACLS Certified
