Sites are approximately a 20-minute drive from each other, with each clinic located near its affiliated hospital.


COMPANY PROFILE:
This privately owned surgical practice opened in 2012 and, today, operates with 3 physicians and 3 physician assistants. Together they staff 3 private practice offices and perform surgeries at neighboring hospitals in Teaneck, Oakland, and Westwood. They specialize in both general and colorectal surgeries, including surgical oncology, hernia, gallbladder disease, and advanced laparoscopic procedures. The 3 physicians are owners of the practice and each partners with a dedicated physician assistant.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The new PA will work as a close partner to one of the surgeons in the practice.

Clinic days typically begin at 8:00am or 9:00am and end early, when the last patient appointment is completed. Clinic days are less than 8 hours, because the practice keeps daily volume low to balance with the demanding on-call weeks.

Services of the practice include, but are not limited to:

- hernia surgery
- gallbladder removal
- biopsies of skin and soft tissue masses
- appendix removal
- colon resection
- small bowel resection
- hemorrhoid surgery
- rectal/anal abscesses and fistulas treatments
- rectal tumor/polyp excision
- rectal prolapse repair

In the inpatient setting, providers round on 5 to 8 patients per day. In the outpatient setting, they typically have 5 appointments per day.

In all settings, there are clinical assistants and/or nurses available to assist the providers, as well as EHRs.

The new PA will work collaboratively with the surgeon, but will have autonomous practice when the two providers are in different clinics or hospitals. This will be a close working relationship and the entire interview process will be conducted directly by the surgeon to ensure a compatible fit for both sides.

On-call is scheduled in a three-week rotation. In Week 1, the physician and PA are the primary on-call providers (this includes ER). This week tends to be very busy and the PA must always be available outside of office hours for nights/overnights. They will only go in with the physician, never alone. In Week 2, they are back-up on-call providers, only being utilized if the primary providers are unavailable or 2 providers are needed - this rarely happens, so Week 2 is usually no on-call activity. In Week 3, they are not on-call at all.

The PA is required to be available for the weekend during Week 1, but the weekend of Week 2 is optional. If the PA chooses to be available for on-call during the weekend of Week 2, they will receive bonus compensation.

This leads to the PA having a very busy week with long hours in Week 1, an average week with typical hours (and maybe occasional on-call duties) in Week 2, and a very easy week (less than 40 hours) in Week 3.

Due to the hospital credentialing process, the start date for this position will be 90-120 days after job acceptance (there may be some flexibility to this in the right circumstances).


REQUIREMENTS:
- New Jersey PA license
- DEA
- at least 2 years of surgical PA experience
- ability and willingness to travel between Teaneck, Oakland, and Westwood
