NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is renowned for The [Register to View] target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trauma Center, staffed to treat any traumatic injury or illness, the fully accredited Breast Health Center, and The Burn Center, with more than 40 years of work in burn care. The hospital also serves patients of many other needs. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College of Yeshiva University.

Responsibilities:

Breast Surgery Service PA

  • The successful candidate will help and coordinate a busy breast surgery practice and be an integral member of the Breast Care Team.
  • Assist in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with both benign and malignant breast disease under the supervision of a Breast Surgery Attending and experienced breast oncology RN.
  • Breast cancer risk assessment and Identification of high-risk patients
  • Counsel patients on preventative care such as annual screening mammography and/or MRI
  • Initiate and implement therapeutic management in the ambulatory setting under direction of the Breast Surgery Attending
  • First assist in the operating room for surgeries when surgery residents are unavailable - breast lumpectomies, mastectomies, and sentinel lymph node biopsies
  • Facilitate continuity of care in the in-patient setting and upon discharge after surgery
  • Field patient call/inquiries and general follow-up of breast service patients
  • Interact with surgery residents, oncology specialists, nursing, and social work to facilitate a multi-disciplinary approach to breast cancer care.
  • Opportunities to attend the multidisciplinary breast tumor board conference
  • Assist in breast cancer patient outreach and awareness activities

Surgical

  • Take medical/surgical, family, reproductive histories
  • Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies and collects data.
  • Request consultations from other oncology specialties and follow-up of subsequent recommendations
  • In-office procedures such as drainage of seromas, skin punch biopsies, drain management, etc
  • Identify and prioritize surgical, medical, and psychosocial problems
  • Order and renew appropriate medications

Qualifications:

  • Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
    • Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the State of New York Department of Education
    • Board Certified by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)

    Some surgical or oncology experience is preferred. However, this position is open for the new PA graduates interested in growing their knowledge base and an interest in breast cancer
