Department of Surgery – Physician Assistant Position
The Surgical Physician Assistants function under the supervision of the attending surgeons on each surgical service. Ultimate responsibility is to the Chairman, Department of Surgery. Staff PAs comprise the surgical housestaff. As part of the attending MD/PA team, PAs are involved in the total care of the surgical patient from admission to discharge – including surgical first assisting. Further responsibilities include H & Ps on routine, emergent, and trauma admissions; daily rounds with progress notes and routine therapeutic and diagnostic procedures; order entry; patient education; discharge paperwork and dictations; and education and training of PA Residents. Administrative duties include: maintaining accurate clinical medical records; preparation of material for clinical conferences; attendance at departmental, scientific and clinical meetings; and on-going collaboration with PA Surgical Residency Program.
This is a Full-Time Day position with a rotating (day/night) on-call requirement in the Surgical ICU. It is for 8 hour shifts, with on call on a rotating basis so it would include nights on occasion only.
Education, Experience and Certification Requirements: Baccalaureate degree as required by CT state statutes; Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited PA school; Completion of twelve months post-graduate training in a surgical program (or equivalent experience including trauma and critical care); Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and PA licensure by the State of Connecticut; current ACLS & BLS certification.
