Top-Notch, Small Cardiothoracic Surgery Group located near Beautiful Santa Barbara, California are hiring an experienced cardiothoracic surgery physician assistant!

2 cardiac surgeons with a manageable caseload of 120 Cardiac Surgeries Annually and 80 Lungs is seeking an experienced cardiac surgery Physician Assistant. Primarily the candidate will be assisting the surgeons in the OR, but will be working the full continuum of care. Candidate will have a varied work schedule depending on the case load for that week! Some weeks will be very hectic, some weeks will be a walk in the park! Most Importantly, we need a dedicated, compassionate cardiac surgery Physician Assistant who desires to be the best! This candidate will only be required to work at one hospital!
We have a great culture and will be moving to a brand new facility next year!

Summary: The Cardiovascular Physician Assistant will assist the cardiovascular surgeons in the provision of preoperative, intra-operative and postoperative care to patients who undergo cardiovascular surgery. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with our Values. The employee shall support the Organization's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and service for quality patient care; record the normal and abnormal data for review by the physician.
  • Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings. Order and schedule diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
  • Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and infection management.
  • Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Provide physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
  • Visit and observe patient on hospital rounds or house calls, updating charts, ordering therapy, and reporting back to physician.
  • Recognize and evaluate situations which call for immediate attention of the physician and organization, when necessary, treatment procedures essential for the life of the patient.
