One of the Nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals has a full-time permanent Opportunity within their Cardiovascular Surgery Department for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant First Assistant. The position will offer a broad range of responsibilities…

The requirements are:

  • CVOR experience (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
  • Vein Harvesting
  • First Assistant experience
  • The schedule is four 10hr shifts or five 8hr shifts. Every shift starts at 6am.
  • Initially the Surgical First Assist will not take call or if they do it would be alongside another Surgical First Assist so they can confirm their abilities. Once they take call it is an average of 10 call shifts per 6-week schedule.

Staff and Typical Day:

We have 2 CVOR’s and run a third room once a week in the Cath lab. We also have 2 surgeons that have been with the program since 1989 and 1995. Both are trained in Cardiac, Thoracic, and Peripheral vascular. It is a nice mix. The staff includes Scrub techs, RN’s (scrub and circulate), RNFA’s and one PA. We have 2 Support techs whose duties include transporting patients, picking up blood products, pulling case carts, supply inventory, ordering supplies, etc. A typical day may include 2 Coronaries, an AVR, creation of an AVF and a CEA.

Type of cases include CABG, Valves, Ascending/descending aneurysms, AAA, Myxomas, Carotids, TAVR, EVARS, Fistulas, Fem-Pop bypass, VATs, VAT Lobectomies, Decortications, Convergent, Pacemakers, Dialysis catheters, etc.

The CVOR falls under Cardiovascular services not Perioperative services. This means CVOR staff is not responsible for covering Main Operating room cases. Our staff is dedicated to the CVOR.
