Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic Surgery

Seeking a Surgical First Assist Physician Assistant to join a group in northwest Indiana just 1 hour from Chicago. The Physician Assistant will spend their day consulting with patients with chronic cardiac issues, or who are in recovery from acute cardiac events. The Physician Assistant is expected to monitor patients, counsel, educate families and to act as a liaison between doctors, patients, families and hospital staff.

Ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of experience in cardiology, surgery, and or cardiovascular experience. Experience in vein harvesting is required. The candidate will have a focus on clinical excellence and patient satisfaction.

· Schedule: 7 on / 7 off

· Weekday Call: 7 on / 7 off

· Average inpatient volume: 5 – 10 patients per day

· Employer will support training and competency education

o Vein harvesting experience is required

· Common Diagnoses:

o Peripheral Arterial Disease

o Carotid Disease

o Thoracic Surgery

o Vascular Surgery

o Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair

· Typical Procedures:

o Procure conduit for coronary artery bypass surgery

o First assist in surgery

o Arterial lines

o Central lines

o Place Swan Ganz catheters

o Perform thoracentesis

o Place and remove intra-aortic balloons

o Place and remove chest tubes

o Provide pre- and post-operative care

· Onsite Equipment:

o EKG

o ABI

o Pacemaker interrogators
