Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

Working within the Department of Radiology with a primary assignment to Interventional Radiology /Radiology assists physicians in providing diagnostic and therapeutic patient care, including but not limited to MRI, CT, and IR. Responsible for the operation of the radiological clinical duties in accordance with departmental and hospital policies, procedures and protocols. Assists with the inventory and ordering of medical equipment and supplies required for patient care procedures.

Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Assistant the Interventional Radiologist during IR procedures and perform minor IR procedures under the guidance of the Interventional Radiologist.
  • Assists physicians and performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures permitted by the hospital’s Medical Board and within your scope of practice for the diagnosis and treatment of patients to include, but not be limited to: IV access and maintenance, PICC Lines, Thoracentesis, Paracentesis, Non-tunnel Catheter, Central Line placement IJ/Femoral, Chest Tube Placement, Abscess Drainages, and Tunnel Catheter removal
  • Perform other procedure such as fluoroscopy exams for GI studies
  • Writing or dictating progress notes, procedure notes, history, and physical examinations in accordance with medical policies
  • Interpret imaging exams (x-ray, CT, MRI, etc.) and laboratory data to make clinical decisions under the supervision of the physician.
  • Coordinate inpatient hospital care with consulting hospital services.
  • Manage patients utilizing both operative and non-operative modalities.
  • Protocol CT and MRI exams according to indications provided by ordering physicians
  • Administers medication, including controlled substances by all routes and administers blood and blood products.
  • Participate in Radiology performance improving (PI) projects
  • Consults with the supervising physician as needed
  • Participates in daily rounds to observe and record pertinent progress of patients updating and summarization charts, writing orders and progress notes, and notifying the Physician of changes in the patient's conditions, when appropriate.
  • Participation in team conferences, lectures, and grand rounds for the service.
  • Assists the supervising Physician and backup Physician on any other procedures fall within the scope of practice of that physician.
  • Performs BLS and ACLS procedures in the presence of life-threatening situations such as cardiac and/or respiratory distress when a Physician is unavailable and with Physician when appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant educational program
  • Current NYS registration as a Physician Assistant
  • Current certification issued by the NCCPA
  • Must have proven ability to work in a team environment and must be able to interact with patients and their families in a manner that instills confidence and facilitates communication
