Essen Health Care is currently seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Department of Behavioral Health at Essen has immediate opening for part- time and full time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Responsible for providing direct patient care in outpatient as well as Nursing home facilities. Opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary team at Essen. All sites have strong participation with Essen Health home care coordination, with potential innovative pilot projects.

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works in collaboration with the Essen Psychiatrist and oversees and offers compassionate, patient centered, evidence-based psychiatric care.

The selected candidates will be responsible for providing quality oversite services for the Patient Care Center, but not limited to the following:

  • Evaluate patients medical and psychiatric conditions under the supervision of Psychiatrist
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescription of psychotropic medications
  • Evaluate patients by interviewing patient, family and other persons by conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors and reviewing medical history and related documents
  • Interpreting psychological test and ordering laboratory test and evaluating results
  • Diagnose patient with correct psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorder
  • Collaborate with supervising Psychiatrist about patient care.
  • Develop treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavior disorders and establishing treatment goals and methodologies
  • Maintain interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress
  • Assure quality and safe service for patients and staff by enforcing policies, procedures, standard, rules, Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations requirements, and legal regulations.
  • Participate in Utilization reviews and remaining available for emergency consultations
  • Analyze the best medications or therapy treatment to help patient maximize quality of life
  • Maintain historical records by documenting symptom, medications, and treatment events in patient records
  • Counsel patient and listen to their reactions to treatment
  • Educate patient, patient’s family, significant others, and relevant parties of patient’s progress, treatment, and future goals.

The successful candidates will have the following Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing
  • Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with unrestricted license to practice in NYS
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
