Job Description
In partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi our teams accommodate more than 325,000 outpatient visits, more than 100,000 emergency room visits and more than 20,000 inpatient admissions annually. NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is renowned for The Trauma Center, staffed to treat any traumatic injury or illness, the fully accredited Breast Health Center, and The Burn Center, with more than 40 years of work in burn care. The hospital also serves patients of many other needs. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College of Yeshiva University.
Responsibilities:
- Performing history and physical examinations
- Ordering diagnostic tests based on assessments
- Developing treatment plans
- Prescribing drugs and other therapies
- Making referrals as necessary
- Documenting findings in the electronic medical record
- Consulting with supervising medical provider when appropriate
- Counseling patients and families regarding care
- Reviewing and responding to referrals from within and outside the clinic
- Working with a team of providers from multiple disciplines to provide excellent care
- Maintaining patient confidentiality
Qualifications:
Required:
- Master's and/or Bachelor's Degree
- Physician Assistant certification/license
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant education program
- Current NYS registration as a Physician Assistant
- Current certification issued by the NCCPA
- Must have proven ability to work in a team environment
- Must be ACLS/BLS certified
Preferred:
- Psychiatric assessment and treatment planning: This competency entails eliciting and recording a psychiatric and psychosocial history, including historical information pertinent to alcohol and substance abuse, performing and recoding a mental status examination, determining an accurate psychiatric diagnosis, and formulating a plan of treatment, under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
- Psychopharmacologic management: this competency entails selecting psychotropic, agents likely to benefit the patient’s behavioral disorder, taking into consideration comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions, and monitoring therapeutic effects, side effects, drug levels, and medical parameters, according to the patient’s needs, under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
- Psychotherapy: this competency includes the provision of various forms of verbal therapy, including individual supportive therapy and group therapy, in accordance with the patient’s clinical needs, under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
- Evaluation and Treatment of MICA Patients: This competency includes the elicitation of historical information pertinent to alcohol and substance abuse, withdrawal, and treatment, assessment of the interrelationship between patterns of abuse and psychiatric status, and selection of appropriate forms of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, under the supervision of a psychiatrist.
