Physician Assistant Needed at Travis Air Force Base
Place of Performance: 690 Airmen Dr. Travis AFB, CA 94535
Schedule: Monday through Friday, Day Shift, typically between the hours of 7am-6pm.
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant or Anesthesiologist Assistant qualified academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician anesthesiologist.
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF; or a graduate of an Anesthesiologist Assistant Training Program accredited by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).
- Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Committee on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Certification as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.
- Have at least 24 months of experience within the last 36 months as a Physician Assistant in a multi-modal (medical and interventional) chronic pain treatment clinic or as an Anesthesiologist Assistant.
- BLS and ACLS certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association and/or Red Cross approved training program. All certifications require proof a cognitive and skills (hands-on) training/assessment was conducted.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Provide acute and chronic pain related specialty care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
- Responsible for a regularly appointed clinic, compatible with workload and, in addition, provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur. Shall have the capability to:
- Collect and record, in proper format, medical and social historical data appropriate to the patient's condition.
- Perform a general physical examination and/or a pain focused examination.
- Responsible for examination of patients and formulation of differential diagnostic plans. Define and order required diagnostic testing.
- Interpret exam findings and test results, and implementation of treatment plans.
- Direct the care provided by nurses and technicians in the clinic; and admits inpatients per local MTF instructions.
- Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
- Plan and initiate proper treatment within defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.
- Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.
- Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.
- Maintain inpatient and outpatient medical records in accordance with MTF procedures.
- Perform simple injections and other invasive procedures as directed by the supervising physician.
- Act as a subspecialist consultant to other departments. This includes entering physical profiles, providing recommendations for medical evaluation boards and assisting with fitness for duty evaluations.
- Perform other clinic related duties as required by supervising physicians or unit leadership.
