In this role, you will evaluate and treat patients and prescribe medications. The NP or PA develops treatment plans in collaboration with a physician to achieve the best health outcomes for the patient in the pain care team. Provider may be exposed to patients with potential infectious disease.
KNOWLEDGE BASE
- Pathophysiology of acute and chronic pain
- Complex pharmacologic therapies including chronic opioid therapy
- Neuro-musculoskeletal pathology
- Advanced radiographic imaging (i.e. MRI)
- Psychological pathology and relation to chronic pain
- Psychological pathology as possible manifestation of chronic pain
- Understanding of interventional spine procedures to include the following (if in Pain Management):
- Indications
- Understanding of spinal anatomy associated with intervention
- Understanding of pharmacology associated with intervention
- Understanding of potential complications associated with intervention
SKILL SET
- Obtain history and physical exam in order to break down complex clinical symptoms into manageable treatment algorithms
- Educate patient and family about chronic pain pathology and treatment algorithms
- Screening of new patients and determining procedural candidacy
- Follow-up with patients to assess response to multiple and often concurrent therapies including medication management, interventional therapies and psychological counseling
- Office-based procedural therapies such as large/intermediate joint injections (shoulder, knee, elbow, ankle), small joints (hand), tendonitis, bursitis, epicondylitis, trigger finger, and trigger point injections
- Educating patients about their radiographic imaging results and correlation to symptoms and potential interventional therapies
- Interventional spinal procedures:
- Ability to discuss indications and details of procedure with patients
- Risk/benefit/alternative analysis with patients
- Post procedure assessment for efficacy and complications
Required Qualifications:
- National Nurse Practitioner certification in Adult, Family Medicine or Geriatrics or Physician Assistant certification or ability to obtain prior to employment
- Unrestricted, active licensure in the State of Nevada or ability to obtain
- Current DEA license or ability to obtain
- Basic technical proficiency in the use of computer programs for medical records or Internet search for clinical practice
- Proficient in assessment and development of treatment plans
- Ability to communicate with patients, team members and management staff
- Ability to make care decisions based on the best medical practices without direct supervision or guidance by a physician

Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 – 5 years Pain Management experience
- Documented clinical practice experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Pain Management, Rheumatology, Orthopedics or Physical Medicine,
- Bi-lingual, English/Spanish
- Empowered to develop plans of action and gain team consensus towards common goals
- A background in managed care
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding

Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
