Job Description

Last Update: 7/11/19
We are searching for one full-time PA or PA who will function as a nocturnist Monday – Thursday (10pm-8:30am). The incoming PA will be the only advanced practitioner hospitalist to work the night shift. There will however be 2 hospitalist physicians working. The ideal candidate will have hospitalist experience and a history of working in a fast-paced environment. An individualized orientation plan will be provided which will likely entail working some daytime shifts initially. The length of the orientation will be dependent upon the level of experience that the provider has. It is a CVPH employed position represented by NYSNA. The incoming provider will report to the Strategy Director of Medical Surgical Services. The compensation ranges from $47.00 - $74.44 and is dependent upon years of experience. There is a night shift differential of $2.90 per hour. A comprehensive benefit package is also offered.

The hospitalist team consists of 16 full time physicians, a few per diem physicians and three full time advanced practitioners. The three advanced practitioners work Monday – Friday from 8-4:30pm. Expansion of the program is necessary as more of the community’s primary care physicians cease covering their patients in-house.

The full time physicians work 15, twelve-hour shifts per month. Six physicians work the day shift (7am-7pm), one physician works the evening shift (2pm-2am) and one physician works the night shift (7pm-7am). The Medical Director for the Hospitalist Service has been with the Medical Center for over 14 years with many of those in a Hospitalist capacity.

The workload is shared equally among the physicians and advanced practitioners. The average number of encounters per provider is approximately 15-17 per day (8-10 at night). Codes from 7am to 5pm are generally covered by the ICU attending, the hospitalist, or the attending of record. ER physicians also cover. During the night shift, the hospitalist on and an ER attending go to codes.
