Job Description
- Document medical histories and performs physical examinations, utilizing appropriate diagnostic techniques
- Provide clinical management of the surgery patient in the acute care setting.
- Act as first assistant in the operating room.
- Conducts pre- and post-op checks.
- Develop, implement, and document treatment plans in conjunction with physician in a timely manner and according to standards.
- Actively participate in Surgical Rounds, Grand Rounds, and other CME Programs as appropriate with time permitting.
- Access protected health information (PHI) in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access (i.e. incidental vs. extensive)
- Submit all first assistant cases and billable procedures
- Serves as a representative of the PAs at medical staff meetings or sends representative if not available.
- Develop and administer hospital policies for PA s.
- Complete performance evaluations of all direct reports in the requested timeframe.
- Recruit and train PAs on clinical procedures and patient care.
- Schedule and assign PAs to maintain appropriate staffing and coverage. Manage PTO and holiday time, as well as on-call and overtime coverage.
- Schedule Robotic in-services with team for new PA training and/or updates as appropriate.
- Assure PAs are compliant with licensure, certification requirements and supervision agreements.
- Ensures compliance with JCAHO standards including OSHA.
- Work on quality improvement programs, such as new policy development, quality improvement projects and/or research as appropriate.
- Work within the budget allocations, with realistic projections for staffing, equipment, supplies and physical facilities.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Completion of an ARC-PA approved training program
- 5+ years of surgical experience is required as a PA.
- Valid Connecticut Physician Assistant s license
- BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
- Must have management/leadership experience with demonstrated competency of clinical skills and techniques.
- Robotic experience is highly preferred but will train on site as it s a requirement of the department.
