Job Summary:

We are seeking a Physician Assistant to join the inpatient Gynecology Department at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. This is a unique position that would provide support for providers in the department and work closely with Gynecology Inpatient Services including General Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Family Planning. We are looking for a Physician Assistant who will exercise autonomy in medical decision making, providing a variety of services for floor management and inpatient/ED consultations working alongside a team of attendings, residents, APPs, and medical students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to patient population in inpatient settings: Gyn Floor, Pre/Post Op, Emergency Departmentand Operating Rooms
  • Assist in operating rooms including robotic surgery cases
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations; Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings under supervision of collaborative physician
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Daily rounding with Gyn Attendings – including Benign, Gyn Oncology, Urogyn, MIGS services
  • ED triage and consult management, coordination of care for emergent surgical cases
  • Competency in pelvic exams, pap smears, endometrial biopsies, trial of voids, management of surgical drains
  • ·Facilitation of safe discharge planning and coordination of outpatient follow up. Be familiar with electronic ordering of medications, diabetic supplies or any other equipment as needed.
  • Work alongside a team of residents, attendings, medical students. Facilitates in medical student and resident learning
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing according to protocols established by the department and in compliance with the NYS rules and regulations governing the performance of Physician Assistants.
  • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.
Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • Preferred previous experience in Women’s Health or surgical services . The department encourages new graduates who would like mentorship in women’s health to apply. Flexibility to work within an inpatient PA team both with scheduling and coverage of patients is required. Previous surgical experience including robotic surgery is strongly desired but not required. This is an employed position in our academic group with comprehensive benefits, CME and malpractice coverage.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Successfully completed a graduate level physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA)

Licenses / Certifications:

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) must be obtained prior to first day of employment
  • Current valid license to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA) by the state department of education is required
  • Current BLS certification is required
