Responsibilities:


Physician Assistant, Infectious Diseases

Under the direction of the Infectious Disease attending, the Physician Assistant provides inpatient and outpatient, high quality, efficient, team based patient focused care. The Physician Assistant’s daily responsibilities may vary based upon the supervising physician and may need evening or weekend work hours.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Physician Assistant will practice as part of Infectious Disease service team under the supervising attending physician.
  • The Physician Assistant will follow assigned inpatients and outpatients with an established treatment plan. Collaboration with the infectious disease team, surgical service, and the Antibiotic Stewardship Program is expected to provide comprehensive care and seamless transitions. Primary Duties will be inclusive of but not limited to:
  • Inpatient, post discharge and outpatient encounters, video or telephonic visits, and EMR contacts (i.e. MyChart) as assigned, optimizing the inpatient to outpatient transition.
  • ID clinic sessions as scheduled for outpatient management of inpatient discharges and outpatients for ID consultation and management.
  • Patient evaluation including medical history, allergies, physical examination, reviewing patient's medical record/laboratories, identification, reporting and recording deviations from normal findings, inpatient status updates of vital signs, subjective complaints, physical findings, laboratory and diagnostic studies, and care team communication.
  • Participating in developing and implementing the management plan in conjunction with the ID attending including but not limited to general medical (i.e. injections) and ID specific diagnostic or therapeutic procedures (i.e. managing infection), abnormal findings/laboratory results recording and disposition, ordering or administering diagnostic tests (i.e. imaging studies, EKG, and laboratory tests), educating and consenting patients for procedures, and engaging patients/families regarding compliance with therapeutic regimens, managing daily living, health maintenance and other relevant patient education.
  • Facilitating admissions, transfers, and ensuring seamless transitions of care including follow-up appointments, labs and tests with patient’s/families, visiting nurses, home care, PMD, SNF, long-term care, etc. Ensuring follow-up of lab results from infusion companies and their transmission to the OPD and other necessary transmissions.
  • Maintenance of updated and reflective EMR documentation of evaluations, findings and their disposition, therapeutic interventions, transition plans, communications and other relevant data.
  • Special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

The ideal Physician’s Assistant will have two years of experience in an infectious disease or equivalent service with a track record of accountability, collaboration, clinical competence, maintenance of clinical documentation, and provision of culturally competent care to diverse patients with complex needs in a collaborative environment while complying with department and organizational quality measures.

New graduates will also be considered for this position.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an approved physician assistant program
  • A valid New York State physician’s assistant license
  • Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification BLS/CPR.
