This full time (40 hrs/wk) position is located at the San Luis Obispo County Jail in San Luis Obispo, CA
Under direct supervision of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher medical professional, the Physician’s Assistants (PA) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) will assist the Physician in all medical care and treatment of the patient population including but not limited to behavioral health disorders. The PA and NP will coordinate the patient plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in collaboration with the healthcare team and in compliance with all agency, local, state, federal laws and regulations.

Responsibilities:
1. Hold daily sick call, examine patients and carry out treatment according to standardized procedures and protocols.
2. Carry out physicians' orders
3. Consult with physician about non-emergency conditions falling outside protocol parameters
4. Identify medical emergency conditions and provide appropriate emergency care and arrange for transfer to the nearest appropriate facility
5. Admit patients to the OHU and coordinate with nursing staff to develop treatment plans
6. Perform annual physical examinations on all persons served as scheduled, order appropriate laboratory studies, and classify appropriate worker status.
7. Perform other duties as assigned

- Completion of a master's program in nursing (NPs) or an accredited education program for PA's
Experience:
Licenses/Certifications:
- Unrestricted current license, certification or registration in state of practice - must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc.
- Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration
- Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and PALS (where applicable) certification through AHA
