We are looking for a Physician Assistant with at least 3 years of primary care experience who is confident enough to work solo in a new satellite clinic approximately 17 miles from hospital.
The candidate will be seeing patients of all ages for preventive/wellness, acute, and chronic care. The successful candidate will provide evaluation and treatment of patients and will be expected to be skilled in the following:

•Elicit medical history and perform appropriate physical examination on patients of all ages within scope of practice.
•Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living and health maintenance.
•Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination.
•Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients.
•Prescribe therapy or medication based on established clinical practices and/or with physician approval per Iowa Code
•Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, infection management, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and others
•Present patient information as needed to the physician for collaboration; communicates effectively with other members of the health team in the provision of appropriate medical care.
•Communicate and interact professionally with patients/families; communicate effectively in regard to age of patient
•Administer and/or order diagnostic studies (i.e. x-ray, ECG, lab; interpret test results for deviations from normal
•Understands and adheres to restrictions placed upon him/her within the midlevel role in a rural health clinic
•Cares for orthopedic problems including strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures with scope of practice and established standards of care.
•Refers patients to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by the patient’s problems as directed by the collaborating physician and in accordance with established standards of care.
•Demonstrates the ability to organize his/her time effectively and to manage a typical work assignment. Is able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work assignments, and completes assigned duties within scheduled hours. Completes other duties as assigned. Not wasting time with non-work related tasks.
•Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Utilizes time efficiently by not abusing breaks or meal periods. Employees are required to accurately record their time using the timekeeping system. Attends personnel meetings and in-services as required for the position.
•Floats to other areas of the department/facility as needed and is willing to pick up additional shifts or duties due to staff shortages.
•Maintains professional licensure and certifications as required by position and regulatory compliance. Maintains annual educational requirements and seeks out additional training if it pertains to his/her job or career goals.


Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 Completion of Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution.
 Licensure in the State of Iowa as a Physician Assistant.
 Minimum 3 years of experience in primary care as a Physician Assistant in a clinic practice required.
 Understanding of the Physician Assistant scope of practice and ability to accept the limitations of his/her position within the PRHC organization.
 BLS and ACLS certification or ability to obtain within 4 months of hire date.
 Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
 Strong written skills, including excellent spelling, proofreading and English Composition skills.
 Ability to communicate effectively in one on one as well as group settings
 Ability to demonstrate a great deal of empathy and understanding toward others.
 Must demonstrate appropriate age-specific communication skills
 Technical skills associated with the position
 Strong computer knowledge.
 Ability to work effectively with physicians and other members of the health care team
 Ability to advocate for patients effectively
 Ability to communicate with tact and professionalism. Positive interpersonal skills.
 Experience in indices and data collection.
 Must demonstrate a high degree of skill in human relations and communication with the ability to deal constructively on a one-on-one basis with a wide variety of persons and personalities.
 Strong organizational skills. Attention to detail.
 Ability to maintain composure in a busy working environment.
 Must possess those technical and critical thinking skills required to complete the duties as described in this job description working solo in an satellite clinic.

Hours:
The clinic will be open M, Th, F from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday from 7:30 to 12:00 (staffed by a physician; this will be the PAs day off)
Wednesday 7:30 to 6:00

The Physician Assistant will be supported by an RN and a CMA. The CMA will provide front office support through reception/scheduling as well as assisting when needed with direct patient care.
We do have an EHR that is house-wide for all inpatient, outpatient and clinic services across all locations.
