Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedic Surgery Job Overview:

  • Assist the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room
  • Perform nonoperative management of various fractures. Proficient with orthopedic casting and injections.
  • Provide primary or specialty medical care with the cognizance or supervision of a physician.
  • Provide services by collecting data required for diagnosis and performing procedures and services.
  • Obtain and evaluate medical histories, performs physical examinations, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and orders laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations.
  • Collect specimens for pathologic examination. Analyzes and interprets data, formulates problem lists, and establishes plans for solution of clinical problems.
  • Counsel patients on medical problems, use of drugs, expected effects of treatment, family planning, child care, diet, and other therapeutic health maintenance matters.
  • Make entries in patient's permanent medical records.
  • Coordinate patient care with other members of health care team.
  • Initiate consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management.
  • Accomplish narrative summaries and other documentation.
  • Instruct other personnel assigned to health care team on preventive medicine programs and other appropriate medical activities and functions as directed

Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedic Surgery Job Qualifications:

  • License: Any U.S. state/jurisdiction. Active, unrestricted.
  • 24 months experience within the last 36 months as an Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant
  • Certification: National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers by AHA
  • Graduation from a physician assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education
  • Formal Residency or Fellowship training program of 12 months or more in Orthopedic Surgery highly preferred

  • Graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician
