Functions with specific privileges as approved by the governing body. May be involved in the coordination of treatment and assists in the management of preoperative and postoperative care. In coordination with the supervising physician, develops a comprehensive plan of care, and collaborates with the care team to ensure continuity quality care. _x000D_ _x000D_ Primary Functions & Accountabilities:_x000D_ - Performs physical examination, compiles medical data and records medical history and implements a treatment plan on new and established patients_x000D_ - Orders appropriate diagnostic studies when indicated_x000D_ - Instructs patients and families regarding treatment plan and medications_x000D_ - Consults with physician when warranted to assess patient condition and treatment_x000D_ - Ensures that medical charts and administrative paper work is completed in a timely manner_x000D_ - Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits_x000D_ - Provides follow-up care to patients according to practice guidelines_x000D_ - May perform preoperative assessment of patient and confirms completion of required documentation_x000D_ - Assesses patient status for compliance with physical, emotional and social admission requirements_x000D_ - May or may not perform thorough preoperative work-up for the scheduled procedures_x000D_ - Notifies Medical Director or attending physician if patient does not meet criteria or is not suitable for treatment in the outpatient setting_x000D_ - Confirms that medical clearance and all diagnostic tests are performed and documented_x000D_ - Supports the patient and family by explaining the perioperative experience with specific instructions to the patient and family regarding their responsibility in the outpatient process_x000D_ - May or may not coordinate the surgical schedule considering special needs of the patient_x000D_ - Performs within guidelines of specific privileges approved by the governing body and delegated by the Medical Director_x000D_ - May or may not confer with the surgeon about the planned anesthetic to be administered_x000D_ - Documents orders and considerations specified by surgeon and carried out by Physician_x000D_ - Monitors patients and administers medications according to Facility policy_x000D_ - Performs preoperative activities according to Facility policy_x000D_ - Provides support to medical and office staff_x000D_ _x000D_ Knowledge, Skills and Abilities_x000D_ - Ability to assess situations, resolve within scope of ability, or escalate as appropriate_x000D_ - Ability to respond effectively to emergencies, actual events or drills._x000D_ - Ability to follow instructions with little supervision_x000D_ - Ability to maintain professional demeanor in all aspects of role_x000D_ - May or may not make hospital rounds for physicians when indicated_x000D_ - Assists in completing paperwork for patients as indicated_x000D_ - Travels between facilities when indicated_x000D_ - Strong customer service skills and excellent communication skills_x000D_ _x000D_ Job Requirements_x000D_ - Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program is required._x000D_ - Must maintain CEU's in pertinent clinical practice according to licensure requirements._x000D_ - BLS Certification must be maintained._x000D_ - Prefer 2 years of experience.
