Heat-Inactivated Microbicide in Lens Solution Linked to Fungal Keratitis Epidemic

The world-wide Fusarium keratitis epidemic of 2004-2006 has been attributed to inadequate temperature control during storage and transport of contact lens solution. Now, researchers in Ohio report that the antimicrobial agent used in the implicated solution loses its fungistatic activity to a greater extent upon exposure to prolonged high heat than do other similar products.
