CSF Proteome Can Help Sharpen Diagnosis of CNS Lymphoma
Researchers have demonstrated for the first time that proteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can yield biomarkers that show greater sensitivity in identifying cancer than CSF cytology does. This advance could lead to earlier and more accurate diagnosis in patients with lesions that are not amenable to brain biopsy, the investigators report in the January 1 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Biomarkers May Predict Response to B Cell Depletion Therapy in Patients With Lupus
Among patients with active, refractory systemic lupus erythematosus, clinical responses to B cell depletion therapy (BCDT) were shorter in those had an expanded autoantibody profile and elevated B lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS) levels at baseline, researchers from the US and UK report in the July issue of the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.
