Meta-Analysis Shows That Statins Reduce the Incidence and Recurrence of AF
French investigators showed that the use of statins was significantly associated with a decreased risk of incidence or recurrence of atrial fibrillation in patients in sinus rhythm with a history of previous AF, those undergoing cardiac surgery, or those prescribed the drugs after an acute coronary syndrome. Risk Factors Identified for Sudden Death in Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1
A 10-year study of adult patients with myotonic dystrophy type 1 confirms their high risk for arrhythmias and sudden death, and identifies factors that appear to predict high risk: patients with severe abnormalities on ECG and atrial tachyarrhythmias had a 3.5- and 5-fold increased risk respectively.
