JOB SUMMARY:

  • Under the leadership of the CIO, the Concentra IT organization is undergoing some exciting transformation. As the company has grown and matured, the move to position IT as much more than a support function, rather, to transform IT to a position of leadership; achieving significant change towards contemporary architectures, infrastructure, applications and information management capabilities. The person brought aboard will have an opportunity to lead this change in the information management space, and to move the needle for the company, and ultimately for its internal and external customers. Concentras IT department currently manages the technology for over 10,000 internal colleagues and approximately 600 urgent care centers, worksites, primary care practices and central billing offices.
  • The Director of Information Management will be responsible for leading Concentras information technology (IT) organizations information management function across people, process and technology. 1) Strategy/Planning, 2) Reference, Master, Metadata and Modeling, 3) Database Development and Administration, 4) Data Warehousing and Integration, 5) Data Security, 6) Data Quality and 7) Data Analysis and Report Development & 8) Tools Administration. This role will also have a shared role with the Business for Data Governance.
  • The Director of Information Management will have extensive Business Executive interaction and will work closely with multiple Business Analytics functions and other IT groups to effectively manage and deliver Information Management capabilities across the company.
  • The successful candidate will have extensive and practical experience, as well as a proven track record creating relevant, achievable and practical information management strategies, delivering upon that strategy in an incremental way, and running these services in dynamic business settings.
  • (S)He should exhibit a broad managerial, leadership, business interaction and technical skillset to effectively solution for and deliver Business Intelligence capabilities across the organization for a diverse set of user needs. This requires the candidate to exhibit seasoned customer engagement skills, including customer management, relationship development, project & service delivery management, and issue resolution.
  • The successful candidate should have the ability to collaborate and interact closely with the Business and IT Executives, Business Analytics, Enterprise Architecture, Application Development, IT Infrastructure & Operations, and IT Security teams to effectively manage and deliver Information Management capabilities across the company. This role will also have significant partnering opportunities to work with existing Humana Information Management competencies including people, process and tools.
  • Working with Business Analytics executive stakeholders, his/her team will identify key needs and form a relevant and practical strategic vision so that Concentra can incrementally build and maintain current and future information management capabilities (roadmap & execution) to effectively and efficiently support the company and its operations.
  • Concentra IT is maturing its service and delivery models, reflecting the transition from a small, start-up company to large scale IT Operations, which requires more formal Information Management (IT) and Business Analytics (Business) functions to deliver its services effectively and efficiently. Thus, the Director of Information Management is also responsible for developing and implementing formal processes, tools, and organizational capabilities to better service growing needs. There is a similar and parallel transformation occurring within the Business Analytics community.
  • This role will be a member of Concentras technology management team, serving as a role model for Concentras Leadership Values. This leadership position is responsible for creating and maintaining a world-class operationally excellent Information Management organization. Likewise, (s) he must build a high performing organization that can support the high availability of Concentras growing portfolio of products and services.
  • In addition to developing technical and leadership skills within the team, the person will be a key contributor to the overall effectiveness of the IT Organization. (S)He will be responsible for mentoring and leading the team to an increased sense of team ownership and pride as an internal business partner. (S)He will also be responsible to provide strategic insights as a leader to communicate complex IT technology issues/strategies to non-technical business leaders to help deliver on successful business outcomes.
  • It should be noted that Concentras IT organization has gone through substantial growth and change over the previous 12-18 months and this individual must be comfortable with building foundational people, process and technology capabilities, while leading through strategic transformation and innovation efforts.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Information Management will be responsible for leading a technical team that provides: 1) Information Management Strategy/Planning, 2) Reference, Master, Metadata and Modeling, 3) Database Development and Administration, 4) Data Warehousing and Integration, 5) Data Security, 6) Data Quality and 7) Data Analysis and Report Development & Tools Administration.

This position requires the candidate to have the knowledge, experiences, skills and aptitude to engage in multiple modes, from strategic decision maker to team lead and manager, to subject matter expert, and where necessary, sufficient technical depth to resolve challenges.

Information Management Strategy & Planning

  • Engage Concentra and Humana Senior Business and Technology Leadership team and Business Analytic stakeholders to understand business and operational needs to plan and align current and future capabilities to support enterprise and business priorities and initiatives, and address the resulting capability gaps/needs
  • Form a relevant and practical strategic vision of Information Management that is based on the proliferation, usage and management of enterprise-wide data and analytics to inform business decisions and strategies
  • Partner with the Head of Business Analytics to drive the Information Management strategic planning processes, working together with the IT Leadership Team and Senior Business Leadership to appropriately prioritize and sequence information management and business analytics investments and initiatives
  • Own and lead the development of a 1-, 3-, and 5-year roadmap, including the formulation of strategic and tactical/quick hit initiatives (e.g., based upon business need, scope, interdependencies, business case, etc.)
  • Provide thought leadership and problem solving skills to address current and future Business Analytic issues, including Big Data and analytics, structured and unstructured data.
  • This role will have heavy collaboration with Humana Information Management Centers of Excellence in order to appropriately identify and implement new technologies in the Social, Mobile, Big Data & Analytics and Cloud spaces, as appropriate to meet impending business needs. The organization will be looking for opportunities to leap frog from the current state in order to impact bottom line.

Reference, Master, Metadata Management & Modeling

  • Develop a unified approach and strategy for managing Master data and developing associated solutions
  • Engage business owners to define Reference, Master, and Metadata (e.g., dictionary, data architecture, standards)
  • Ensure the development of capabilities to enable easy access to high quality, integrated Reference, Master and Metadata
  • Assist the business with operational data definitions (e.g., data modeling, table & index design, DB design)
  • Support the business by leading analytical data designs (e.g., dimensional modeling, DW table & index design, DW database design)
  • Design physical data constructs (e.g., converting ERD/dimensional models to table design, indexing, physical storage constructs, DDLs)
  • Build Data Modeling competency to document data content from numerous enterprise sources. Includes clearly document data mappings across disparate systems, source and target data models. Define tools, processes and competencies required to store, update and provision.


Database Development and Administration

  • Responsible for the rationalization and standardization of database platforms that meet security and regulatory requirements, operational SLAs and be agile enough to meet business needs in a quickly changing industry. Providing the right service at minimal administrative cost.
  • Focus and move to a real time (and near real time) operating environment, as well as systems requiring high availability, increased performance, more stringent SLAs and new ways of doing business.
  • Implement a database strategy across both build and run functions. Build includes design & build in support of Business Analytics and Information Management functions. Run includes database production support (L1/L2/L3), performance monitoring & tuning, backup & recovery, archival/purging/retention/retrieval.
  • Define and align on a comprehensive strategy and implementation approach to minimizing database administration costs.
  • Increase efficiencies & capabilities across the continuum focusing on database automation/provisioning, upgrades, archival & retrieval and performance monitoring/tuning.
  • Implement solutions to drive improvements in scalability, performance, availability and speed of provisioning.

Data Warehousing and Integration

  • Define and implement a data warehousing architecture strategy, design and incremental roadmap that overcomes current challenges and appropriately meets current and future analytic needs.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data repository and storage architecture including solutions for data sourcing, data integration & staging, data hub (data warehouses, stores, marts, etc.), data privacy, reporting/analytics/views, data quality & governance. Leverage existing toolsets and capabilities from parent company.
  • Manage a technical team that designs, implements, and maintains data repositories as defined.
  • In partnership with Enterprise Architecture, define and implement clear guiding principles and an integration reference model to enable agile, secure and timely integration of data.
  • Manage a technical team that designs and builds data services to support business requirements, and adheres to comprehensive, standardized, flexible and scalable data integration architectural models.
  • Ensure data services align to an established overarching integration strategy and data services model, and enable a Service Oriented Architecture where appropriate.

Data Security

  • In partnership with Enterprise Architecture and Information Security, define the roadmap for and implement enterprise tools and processes to provide consistent authentication, authorization, access and auditing of data access across applications.
  • Create a comprehensive inventory of PHI or confidential information
  • Define the strategy, tools and technology roadmap for:

Event Logging for Data Asset Management

User Authorization, Authentication, Access and Audit, including standard role definition Identity Management

Vulnerability Scanning and Monitoring

Rollout and support data masking across non production and production environments.

Data Quality

  • Manage a technical team that develops and executes standard data quality processes for audit, validation, standardization, enrichment and cleansing of data
  • Ensure continuous and incremental improvement of data quality over time
  • Lead the development of processes and tools to validate and ensure adherence to corporate data security policies

Data Analyses & Report Development

  • Manage a technical team that provides ad hoc analytical support and operational reports to a broad set of business users, including Sales, Finance, Operations, HR, and Clinical domains.
  • Develop end-to-end standardized delivery processes to improve service consistency (e.g., intake, pipeline management, prioritization, escalation, etc.)
  • Engage business clients to develop service level metrics, track results, and provide periodic report-outs
  • Provide high-level service delivery oversight and resolve escalated customer issues in a timely manner
  • Continually pursue opportunities to improve delivery efficiencies through standardization, process improvement, automation and self-servicing initiatives.

Tools Administration

  • Develop and champion initiatives that enable greater user self-service for data analytics and reporting
  • Promote adoption and usage of standardized analytical tools
  • Manage a technical team that develops, deploys, and supports business analytics tools

Data Governance

  • Partner with Business Analytics stakeholders to design and implement enterprise-wide data governance model (e.g., governing bodies, roles, decision rights, processes, etc.). Data governance is shared with business owners, Business Analytics, and Data Architecture teams
  • Engage business data owners to align on data ownership, define data standards and consistency across the enterprise
  • Research, analyze, and promote alignment of data sources to standard industry data models
  • Work with business to define and stand-up data steward roles and accompanying processes

Team Administration

  • Provide oversight of all operational activities within the team and projects led by team members
  • Own and manage departmental budgets (capital & expense) and contribute to annual financial planning process
  • Proactively manage team capacity and workloads, as well as engage business clients on demand management
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to promote an effective and efficient working environment
  • Manage and resolve inter- and intra-team conflicts, engaging HR or other IT leaders as needed
  • Conduct formal and informal performance assessments for team members, per established cadences and processes

Mentoring & Staff Development

  • Develop and motivate the team. Evaluate and strengthen the team, as required, to solidify succession plans and enhance capabilities to meet strategic and operating objectives. Recruiting and develop highly effective direct reports and staff.
  • Be an active leader in the company. Foster a collaborative cross-functional culture and successfully influence other business functions and executive management. Promote a culture of success, pride, performance, discipline, and creativity. Be an effective spokesperson and champion for Concentra as a whole.

SCOPE MEASURES: (For Supervisor and above)

This individual will manage a total staff of approximately 10 to 15 individuals, with additional support from external Global Sourcing Partners. The individual must have a track record managing operational budgets in the $10-$15 million dollar range.
