The Michael DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), Houston has an immediate opening for a RadiologyService Chief, one of the four sections of the Diagnostic & Therapeutic Care Line (DTCL). The Radiology Service Chief will have the principal responsibility of supporting the DTCL Executive in the performance of administrative duties and clinical oversight of the Radiology service. He/she will be responsible for maintaining and improving systems of delivering health care by developing programs and policies, improving utilization of resources, designing and overseeing needed process changes for the clinical programs in all imaging modalities with the Radiologyserviceand assisting the Care Line Executive in any function they require. The incumbent must have knowledge/experience of regulatory groups (Joint Commission, CAP, OSHA, NHPP, NRC, etc.) that impact the Radiology service. The incumbent may serve in place of the DTCL Executive at certain regularly scheduled meetings, where coordination of clinical and administrative services is necessary on behalf of Radiology. The incumbent has to have the ability to communicate effectively with persons both within and outside the organization, from diverse backgrounds and levels of education and competence. The service's staffing includes approximately 20 Radiologists (Neuro, IR and Body), 60 Technologists, 15 Nurses, and numerous other clerks and administrative support staff. The Radiologyand Nuclear Medicine Servicecompletes approximately 18,000 imaging exams per month in all modalities combined (CT, Ultrasound, General Diagnostic, MRI and IR). Current equipment includes four MRI scanners, two 3.0 T, one 1.5T and one open 1.0T; three CT scanners with plans for installation of a fourth CT scanner within the next eighteen months; twoPhilips Biplane systems, eight Diagnostic X-ray rooms, four fluoroscopy rooms, five Ultrasound rooms and one dedicated Ultrasound/IR procedure suite in addition to multiple portables and OR support equipment. MEDVAMC is expanding imaging services to the Conroe Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) with an imaging satellite site to provide multi-modality imaging services. Radiology Service will be beginning a comprehensive breast care program on-line mid 2016 to include an accredited mammography site in order to expand specialty care services to our veteran patients. The position is full-time, and applicants arepreferred to be board certified by the American College of Radiology. The candidate is also preferred tohave a minimum 10 years of experience in Radiology, a minimum of 3 years of experience in administration/supervision and a minimum of 3 years of VA or Federal experience. A full, current, active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia is required. This position is a combination of clinical work and administrative responsibilities. The MEDVAMC is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine as well as UT-Houston School of Medicine and the selected candidate will have the opportunity for a faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM).
