Position Details:
4.3.6. Direct Patient Care: 95% of the time will be direct patient care. Contractor shall be responsible for:
4.3.6.1. Scope of Care: Contract physician(s) shall be responsible for providing Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology procedures, including, but not limited to:
Angiography
Balloon angioplasty/stent placement Line insertion
IVC filters Biliary intervention
Cholecystostomy Vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty
Drain insertions Nephrostomy placement
Embolization Radiologically inserted gastrostomy
Thrombolysis Dialysis access & related interventions
Biopsy

Diagnostic interpretations (including teleradiology), but not limited to:
General radiography CT (all organs)
US to include transvaginal MRI/MRA
PET scans

4.3.6.2. Clinic: Contractor physician(s) shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time.
4.3.6.3. Consultation Responsibilities: Contractor physician(s) shall provide consultation with and instruction to referring physicians regarding appropriate indications for interventional/diagnostic radiologic procedures so that the most expeditious and clinically appropriate work-up can be done. Contractor physician(s) shall determine the appropriate course of treatment and communicate in person or by phone with the referring clinicians. The radiologist who interprets the images will be available for telephone consultation with the provider in need of additional information or guidance regarding further diagnostics.
4.3.6.4. After Business Hours: On the rare occasion that an interventional exam needs to be performed after hours or on weekends, the radiologist contractor practice must be available to perform the procedure, if it is available at the facility at the time of need.
4.3.6.4.1. Contractor physician(s) shall provide post-procedure evaluation and follow-up and clinical consultation regarding complications of interventional/diagnostic radiologic procedures.
4.3.6.5. Medications: Contractor physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.
4.3.6.6. Discharge education: Provide discharge education and follow up instructions for applicable interventional cases.

4.3.7. ADMINISTRATIVE: 5 % of time not involved in direct patient care
4.3.7.1. Quality Improvement Meetings: The contract physician (s) shall participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee participation as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.

4.3.7.2. Staff Meetings/Rounds: The contract physician (s) shall attend staff meetings as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. Contractor to communicate with COR on this requirement and report any conflicts that may interfere with compliance with this requirement.

4.3.7.3. Peer Reviews: The contract physician (s) shall perform peer reviews for approximately one hour per month.

4.3.7.4. Specialized Meetings: The contract physician (s) shall prepare for, attend and take care of follow up activities resulting from the following specialized meetings as needed:

4.3.7.4.1. VAMC Tumor Board which meets for one hour monthly to review pending cases.

4.3.7.5. QA/QI documentation: The contract physician (s) shall complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications and outcome of examinations.

4.3.7.6. Patient Safety Compliance and Reporting: Contract physician (s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Contract physician (s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be reported to the COR per VA Safety Policy. As soon as practicable (but within 24 hours) Contractors shall notify COR of incident and submit to the COR the Patient Safety Report, following up with COR as required or requested.

Experience/Qualifications Needed:
- Board Certified in Interventional/Diagnostic Radiology
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia
- Have and maintain BLS and ACLS certifications

Hours: 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. On-call from 4:30 pm to 8:00 am during the week and on weekends as well. Historically, call backs to this facility occur apporimately 4 times per year.
