Qualifications: • Must have at least 1 year of experience. • Must been awarded a medical doctor (MD) or doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) with successful completion of The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) approved residency training program in psychiatry. • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry. o Board Eligible is defined by the AMA as having completed an approved residency AND having at least 1 year of post-residency experience in the given specialty. • Must be licensed in a State, Territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. o License must be active, full, current, and unrestricted. • Must be a U.S. Citizen. • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Scope of Work: • Admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to adult patients, presenting with mental, behavioral, addictive or emotional disorders, e.g. psychoses, depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse disorders, developmental disabilities, sexual dysfunctions, and adjustment disorders. • Privileges include providing consultation with physicians in other fields regarding mental, behavioral or emotional disorders; pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, family therapy, behavior modification; consultation to the courts; and emergency psychiatry, as well as the ordering of diagnostic laboratory tests, and prescribe medications. • The performance of history and physical examinations is also included. (May provide care to patients in the intensive care setting in conformance with unit policies.) • Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services. • During this work schedule the psychiatrists shall evaluate and treat a scheduled grid of Veterans with occasional walk-in Veterans as needed. • The locum tenens psychiatrists evaluate and treat any admissions to the mental health unit, any established in patients who are suicidal or homicidal or with other complications. Includes stat consults from medical floors and Emergency Department.
