Psychiatrist - (Psych) Locum Tenens
StartDate: 09/03/2013Available Shifts: 8 Hour/Day
A Psychiatrist is needed to provide coverage on a locum tenens basis at this Veterans Affairs Medical Center starting September 3rd and lasting through the end of December, or until a permanent candidate can be identified. The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The physician will see approximately 10 patients per day.
A psychiatrist (locum tenens) is a mental health professional, who focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating mental illness. After completing medical school, a psychiatrist must also complete a one year internship and three additional years of specialized training as a psychiatric resident. In the treatment of mental illness, a psychiatrist is licensed to prescribe medication. Some conditions requiring medication include; depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. A psychiatrist evaluates patients with mental illness and, in cases where medication is subscribed, often practices medication management.
Required Qualifications
The physician shall maintain Board Certification or Board Eligibility within four years of the completion date of their residency. An active Basic Life Support certification will be required prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
The VA rates candidates who have experience working with the veteran population more highly than those without it.
