• In collaboration with the neurosurgeons, physiatrists and other INI specialists, lead a comprehensive spine program to treat various spinal disorders (neck, back, and generalized). A Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, pain, or Internal Medicine physician, with a fellowship in medical spine or spine health is preferred.
• The Non-operative Spine Specialist will primarily focus on medical management rather than procedure based management, of chronic back pain patients.
• This is an outpatient opportunity with no call.
• Understand the indications for spinal surgery, coordinate conservative treatment plans, obtain appropriate diagnostic testing, make referrals to surgeon as appropriate, and participate in the development of INI Spine Institute’s chronic pain program.
• Physician will focus on being the “medical home” for non-operative back pain patients, coordinating treatment plans and overseeing various treatment modalities.
• Tertiary referrals from a 37 county Central Illinois population base of 2 million, support and continue to foster growth within this quality comprehensive neurosciences institute and complex spine program.
• The Illinois Neurological Institute is part of OSF Healthcare and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, a 650-bed hospital with a Level I Trauma Center, and the Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
• The very busy INI combines neurology, neurosurgery, PM&R, neuroradiology, and neuropathology. The neurosurgery faculty of eight, includes a neurosurgeon trained in functional neurosurgery, including deep brain stimulation.
• Academic appointment at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and teaching residents and medical students are integral parts of this opportunity. The INI supports well-established, on-site residency training programs in neurology and neurosurgery and an accredited fellowship in stroke.
